Macomb is home to 34 miles of coastline along Lake St. Clair, with ample opportunities for swimming, boating, fishing, and many other ways to enjoy the water. The county also features the Clinton River and its tributaries, which host kayaking, canoe liveries, waterfront restaurants and more.

Macomb County is also home to three state recreational facilities, as well as three Huron-Clinton Metroparks, and over 3,800 acres of municipal parks. With over 25 golf courses, Macomb is home to some of the most picturesque places to golf in the state.

The park also features an Olympic-size swimming pool with waterslides, Squirt Zone Spray Ground, nature center, trails, two family-friendly golf courses, boardwalk and 1,000-foot-long sandy beach. The park is open year-round, and in the winter, visitors can enjoy ice fishing for perch, cross-country skiing on groomed trails, a game of hockey and ice skating outdoors.

Stony Creek Metropark

Stony Creek Metropark features a nature center, mountain bike skills course, disc golf course, 18-hole regulation golf course, baseball diamonds, playgrounds, soccer fields and volleyball and basketball courts. Picnic areas with reservable shelters, grills and comfort stations are located throughout the park. Spend an afternoon boating, fishing or swimming in 500-acre Stony Creek Lake. Hike, bike, run or in-line skate through lush woodlands, serene wetlands and tall grass prairies. In the winter, walk, cross-county ski or snowshoe across marked trails. A winter sports area includes snowboard, sled and toboggan hills. Enjoy the best of nature and outdoor fun at Stony Creek Metropark.

Wolcott Mill Metropark

Wolcott Mill Metropark is a 2,625-acre park nestled against the banks of the Clinton River in Ray Township. It features a 250-acre, late-20th century working farm where visitors can meet a variety of animals, including all six heritage breeds of dairy cow. The Historic Center is one of the few remaining historic grist and feed mills, complete with antique farming equipment and a restored Model T dump truck. The park also includes an 18-hole golf course and Camp Rotary, where you can hike through wooded trails and open fields and even bring your horse to ride along 10 miles of equestrian trails that meander through woods, meadows and along the Clinton River.

Macomb Trails

Macomb Orchard Trail

The Macomb Orchard Trail is a non-motorized path, constructed within an abandoned rail corridor, that provides users with a safe transportation and recreation route through northern Macomb County. The completed 23.5-mile route serves as a regional connection between the Clinton River and Paint Creek Trails in Oakland County. The trail provides places for cyclists, hikers, walkers, runners, horseback riders, in-line skaters, and cross-country skiers to exercise and experience the many natural and cultural wonders of the urban, suburban, and rural environments.

Macomb Water Trails

Throughout Macomb County there are designated routes along the lake, river, canals and bays that are specifically designed for people using small boats like kayaks, canoes, single sail boats or rowboats. The trails, sometimes called "blueways", are the aquatic equivalent of a hiking trail (or "greenway"). Water trails feature well-developed access and launch points; are near significant historical, environmental or cultural points of interest; and often include nearby amenities such as restaurants, hotels and campgrounds.

Freedom Hill County Park

Freedom Hill is a 100-acre park located in Sterling Heights. The regional park plays host to special events such as ethnic festivals, markets, auto shows, holiday festivals and boat shows. The festival grounds include a 40'x 60' stage, a 60'x 60' dance shelter and a 120'x 60' pavilion. The Ralph Liberato Independence Hall includes a full kitchen and banquet hall, meeting rooms, indoor and outdoor restroom and administrative offices. The armed forces commemorative displays include a F-4 Jet, Huey Helicopter and a M60 Tank. The Vietnam Memorial dedicated July 4th, 2006, features a two-sided granite stone containing 147 names of Macomb County Vietnam veterans who were killed in war. In addition, Freedom Hill has a bike path, playground, covered picnic areas, and nature trails. Currently, a privately developed and operated outdoor amphitheater is also on the site, hosting a full summer concert series.
